Mourinho and Casillas endured a strained relationship during the Portuguese coach's time in charge of Real Madrid, with the club captain regularly relegated to the bench amid an unhappy 2012-13 campaign. This was the time when Jose had left Real Madrid for Chelsea.

Cesar - who played for Brazil at the 2014 World Cup, including in their 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany - has recently announced his retirement from football. Mourinho, meanwhile, suspected that Casillas was leaking tactical secrets to his journalist girlfriend, Sara Carbonero.

Indeed, Julio Cesar passed on some words of advice to the iconic custodian on how to deal with the coach.

And it has now been revealed by former Brazil global Julio Cesar just how bad their relationship was and the lack of respect Mourinho had for the Spain legend.

Cesar has spoken out about an incident after the 2013 Confederations Cup, in which he paid tribute to Casillas by wearing his shirt as he picked up the award for the best goalkeeper in the tournament.

Cesar told Brazilian TV channel SporTV: 'When I got to the dressing room, I saw a message from Mourinho on my phone.

"The message was: 'You're insane".

"'You're insane, it's Casillas who would have to put on your shirt and not you, ' it read".

"Iker went to the dressing room to talk to me and I told him to have a discussion with Mourinho, which is hard but he had to face it", he added.

"For me, Mourinho likes to go face to face with the players who are considered the stars in the team he coaches".

But Manchester United captain Michael Carrick has reportedly sat down with Paul Pogba and has told him to fix his relationship with Mourinho.
