The legal team also announced the hiring of Jane Serene Raskin and Marty Raskin.

"Rudy is nice. He has been my good friend for a very long time and desires to get this matter shortly resolved for the nice of the nation", President Trump mentioned in an announcement launched by his attorneys.

Per Sekulow's statement, Trump said of Giuliani: "Rudy is great".

Giuliani says he has joined the president's legal team to help deal with the ongoing investigation by Special Counsel Mueller.

Jay Sekulow, Ty Cobb, and Andrew Ekonomou are now representing Trump in the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow.

Giuliani told CNN his focus will be on interfacing with special counsel Robert Mueller in his Russian Federation probe and to help bring everything to a conclusion, saying it "needs a little push".

"I'm doing it because I hope we can negotiate an end to this for the good of the country and because I have high regard for the president and for Bob Mueller", Giuliani said.

Traveling to Key West on Thursday, Trump was asked by reporters about Mueller a few times, but he ignored all shouted questions, giving no indication that his legal team was bringing on Giuliani.

With the addition of Giuliani, Trump gains an experienced litigator and former US attorney in Manhattan.

Giuliani, who is chair of Greenberg Trauig's Cybersecurity, Privacy and Crisis Management Practice, said he finalized his decision in recent days, and spoke with Trump about it last week at the president's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

Cohen's office, home and hotel room were raided last week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, provoking a backlash from Trump in which he publicly weighed whether to fire Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. In a statement announcing Giuliani's hire, Trump expressed his wish that the investigation wrap up soon. "I know everybody involved, maybe they'll trust me". Last month prominent Washington, D.C., attorney John Dowd, a former Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld partner, resigned from his role on Trump's lineup.

The mainstream legal world appeared to continue to want to keep Trump at arm's length on Thursday.

He was in consideration for the roles of both attorney general and secretary of state, with the Trump transition team claiming that he removed himself from consideration. NPR's Amy Held laid out the many lawyers linked to Trump who ended up not joining the team - most recently the frequent Fox News contributor Joseph diGenova and his wife, lawyer Victoria Toensing.
