A Jubilee Party Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua allegedly hired goons to harass Martha Miano an election observer after nabbing and reporting a woman who was giving out bribe.

The legislator insisted that some "observers" had been campaigning for one of the candidates.

"I was attacked in the presence of the police who did nothing, it appears they (police) are biased", claimed Ms Miano.

In a video uploaded on Facebook, the MP threatens to eject "campaigners" should the IEBC allow them to continue staying at the polling stations.

Ms Miano narrated how she went to the Ndunduini polling station on receiving complaints of voter bribery.

Speaking to Capital FM News correspondent John Gathua on phone on Thursday morning, Mathira West police boss Kiptoo Birgen confirmed that the two were arrested and are being held at Kiamariga police station.

"There are claims of election malpractices, we are looking into the matter but the situation has been contained", Mr. Birgen said.

Despite most polling stations opening early, the by-election was marked by low voter turnout.

The electoral race was between Mandeleo Chap Chap's candidate James Ndegwa and Jubilee flag-bearer Erastus Karanja following the demise of the MCA Peter Kinyua Weru who collapsed while addressing a congregation during Jamhuri day celebrations previous year.
