Deadly Crash On Route Y In Miller County Leaves One Deputy Dead

UPDATE 2:36 a.m.: Missouri State Highway Patrol has released the name of the deputy killed in the crash.

The deputy has been identified as Casey Shoemate, 26, of Eldon, Missouri.

The deputy was pronounced dead at the scene by the Miller County coroner.

Both Shoemate and Levin were wearing seatbelts.

Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed a deputy from Miller County died in a head-on crash Friday. As he was passing a fire truck, Shoemate hit another vehicle head-on. Shoemate's vehicle was struck head on with a auto traveling northbound.

Levin, 65, was injured and taken by air ambulance to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, where he was listed in serious condition.

The highway patrol said the major crash team is investigating and no one has been arrested.
