The UFC plans to take a serious look at signing the former National Football League defensive lineman to an exclusive contract this summer after he booked a heavyweight fight on June 12, on the "Dana White Tuesday Night Contender Series", sources said.

"I'm not saying he should be welcomed here", White said (via MMA-Today).

The former Carolina Panther and Dallas Cowboy defensive end previously announced his intentions of focusing on the combat sports, leading to his involvement with the highly acclaimed American Top Team gym in Coconut Creak, Florida.

One of the most controversial free-agent acquisitions in Jerry Jones' tenure as owner and general manager of the Cowboys is in the process of a major career change.

The former NFL Pro Bowl selection defeated Ryan Chester in 14.53 seconds during his last amateur fight, which took place at Legacy Fighting Alliance 33 in February. After losing his only professional fight against former UFC and Bellator veteran Chase Gormley in 2012, Sayles would return to the sport five years later.

He'll look to continue that rise against Sayles, who has won three straight bouts himself to sit at 5-1 in his fighting career.

Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series debuted on UFC Fight Pass past year and awarded 16 UFC contracts, along with a developmental deal.
