Jonathan Rea scorched to another race win after holding off a hard charging Michael van der Mark in Assen today.

Van der Mark was 0.243s ahead of Ducati's Marco Melandri in second, with Michael Ruben Rinaldi - competing in only his second World Superbike round - third quickest for the Ducati Junior team.

Van der Mark managed to find a way through past Rea to lead mid-way through the race, although wasn't able to respond as Rea re-passed the Yamaha and was never headed to the flag.

Van der Mark was left to take an impressive second place in front of his home crowd despite Chaz Davies moving past the Dutchman to join the victory fight mid-way through the race.

Poleman Alex Lowes had a nightmare race meanwhile, as the Yamaha significantly lost pace in the middling stages to slip well out of the leading pack to come home a lowly 12th. He was ultimately unable to make an impression and had to settle in behind the Welshman, although will start tomorrow's reverse grid race from pole position.

Tom Sykes enjoyed a late race resurgence to take a strong fourth place ahead of the Barni Ducati of Xavi Fores.

Althea BMW's Loris Baz was seventh, followed by Leandro Mercado (Orelac Racing), who beat Jordi Torres (MV Agusta) by four tenths.

Fourth place starter Lorenzo Savadori crashed out from seventh place, the Italian recovering from a awful start that saw the Aprilia finish the first lap outside the top ten.
