'Depression and Suicide are very serious issues. On film & television sets, commercial shoots, at comic-con's & personal appearances, to his own YouTube videos, he was there to show everyone what he was capable of doing.

The actor, best known for his role as Mini Me in "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" and "Austin Powers in Goldmember", was hospitalized after friends called authorities about his behavior, the Los Angeles Times reported on April 4. The family appreciates that they have this time to grieve privately. "Be kind to one another", the post continued.

He also struggled with alcoholism for years and had been to rehab many times. "And always know, it's never too late to reach out to someone for help".

It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today.

Actor Verne Troyer attends Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night XXI at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort and Spa on March 28, 2015 in Phoenix, Arizona.

The family also asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Verne's name to either of his two favorite charities; The Starkey Hearing Foundation and Best Buddies. Troyer had been treated for alcohol poisoning earlier this month, according to TMZ. He was notable for his height of 2-feet 8 inches, the result of achondroplasia dwarfism, making him one of the shortest men in the world.

Verne began his Hollywood career in 1994 as a stunt double for Baby Bink in the film "Baby's Day Out".
