Man sleeping on footpath run over by auto in Hyderabad

A late night joy-ride turned tragic when a man sleeping on footpath was run over by a speeding auto driven by a B.Tech student at Kushaiguda area of Hyderabad, Telangana, late Sunday, April 22. Read Also: Vice President Venkaiah Naidu rejects Opposition's impeachment motion against CJI Dipak Mishra The tragedy took place at DAE colony which is under Kushaiguda police station around 12.30 am on Monday. According to reports, she was heading home from A S Rao Nagar with three of her friends when the incident occurred. Ashok, a cobbler who was sleeping on the footpath injured seriously.

K Ashok (30) sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the government-run Gandhi Hospital, where he succumbed. But, he couldn't make it and was declared brought dead. "Preliminary investigations revealed the woman who was driving the vehicle was not drunk and only one of the four women was found to be drunk", Kushaiguda Police Inspector N Venkata Ramana told the Hindustan Times.

The locals immediately informed to 108 medical emergency staff and police. The police booked a case under Indian Penal Code section 304A (causing death by negligence).

Police said the incident occurred at 12.05 am when the auto, containing four B.Tech second year students, all girls, was heading towards Tarnaka and the driver, identified as Ishanya Pathil Reddy (20), suddenly swerved the wheel towards the left side, apparently to avoid hitting a stray dog.

According to Kushaiguda Inspector K Chandrashekar, the driver of the vehicle, Ishanya Pathil Reddy, was found not to have consumed liquor. The police officials suspect that the college student was driving under the influence of alcohol.
