Matthew Wright has revealed he will step down as presenter of The Wright Stuff, after fronting the series for almost two decades.

The journalist-turned-presenter has announced he will leave the Channel 5 chat show progamme after 10 years behind the desk.

"After nearly 18 glorious years on Channel 5 and the show flying high in the ratings, I feel it's time to move and try my hand at something new", Wright said in a statement.

Matthew Wright will step down from hosting Channel 5's current affairs programme The Wright Stuff.

'He will be sorely missed and we wish him all the very best for the future'.

The Daily Mail had claimed that the host had refused to apologise for one of his guest's comments. I don't see why I have to apologise for one of my guests stating a medical fact.

"The Wright Stuff" also faced its fair share of controversy, such as in 2011, when Matthew invited viewers to take part in a debate about whether they would sleep with Amanda Knox, or a joke the host made about the murder of Scottish teenager Liam Aitchison that same year, which Ofcom said they'd received more complaints about that year than any other TV moment.
