Cristiano Ronaldo is not expected to be a doubt for the Champions League final after suffering an ankle injury in El Clasico, with Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane saying it is a "minor" problem. The striker played on until half-time but was substituted during the interval.

"There was nothing at stake but it was a good Clasico - high intensity and chances".

But Ronaldo's injury will be the key talking point, with the Portugese now facing a fight to recover in time for the Champions League final against Liverpool on May 26.

"He said it wasn't much, but we'll see tomorrow, we'll do some tests to see the extend of the damage done to his ankle. He was a little anxious because it was a bit swollen, but he said that it's nothing serious". "I think it's just a knock".

But Bale was lucky still to be on the pitch after he stabbed his studs into the back of Samuel Umtiti's calf, moments before Sergi was sent off.

Zidane also commented on the performance of referee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez, who was criticised by both clubs after the game. "Next year it will change, with VAR, and we will see how a game like this ends up".

'I can't say how long he'll be out for.

"It was a hard match for the referee, but I'm not going to get involved, it's tough". In the Madrid forward's case, this approach to playing time and game-to-game management is clearly down to age and the desire to remain fresh for the sharp end of the season - Ronaldo has featured in 87 games out of a possible 117 (74.35%) compared with Messi's 103 in 114 games (90.35%). The Spaniard went off to a standing ovation in the second half.

"I'd have liked to have won", added Zidane. For instance, while Messi has played 13 of the 18 Copa del Rey games, Cristiano has played two out of 12; in fact, the Portuguese forward didn't play a single minute in this season's competition.

Barca are 3 matches away from becoming the first team ever to finish La Liga season unbeaten.
