A vigil to remember Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell will he held later this week on the first anniversary of his death. The Soundgarden/Audioslave singer was found dead in his Detroit hotel room on May 18, 2017, and his widow, Vicky Cornell, announced over the weekend that fans will have a chance to pay tribute to the "Black Hole Sun" singer at a public vigil on Friday (May 18) in Los Angeles. He was 52 years old.

In a statement shared to social media, Vicky wrote that, "The children and I are so grateful to you all for being by our sides throughout all of this". I remember waking up the morning he died with a few texts from family members with screenshots of the news asking "don't you like this band?"

The vigil will take place at Hollywood Forever cemetery on May 18.

"Your love has created a close-knit community, more like a family, to grieve with, to provide support, and to help us heal". It will "begin promptly" at 7pm. Vicky also has invited people all over-even those who can't be there in person-to partake in the remembrance in their own way, whether by lighting a candle, posting a video or photo, or simply reflecting on the ways in which the beloved rocker and his music touched their lives.

"As we know, there are millions of fans and not everyone can physically be there".
