The Argentine, 57, left Fujairah on April 27 after failing to guide the UAE second-tier side to automatic promotion to the Arabian Gulf League.

Brest are looking to challenge the dominance of BATE Borisov, winners of the last 12 league titles, and will be hoping Maradona can work some magic in helping the club to the top of the table.

Confirming the appointment on social media, Brest tweeted: "Yes, Diego is with us".

"The Argentinean has signed a three-year contract with FC Dynamo Brest and has become Chairman of the Management Board of the club".

Argentinian legend Diego Maradona has been named as the chairman of a football club in Belarus, according to reports.

"Thanks for the trust and for thinking of me", he added.

The club say Maradona's role will see him "deal with strategic development of the club".

Argentina's forward Diego Maradona is carried on the shoulders of fans as he does a victory lap holding the FIFA World Cup after Argentina defeated West Germany 3-2 in the World Cup final on June 29, 1986, in Mexico City.

They face BATE in the Belarusian Cup final on Sunday, where they will seek to defend the trophy they won previous year.
