Ocala, Florida- A Forest High School agriculture teacher was placed on administrative leave today after students reported he was drowning two raccoons and a possum Monday during school hours.

"They finally took the cage out of the water, and they trapped it into another smaller cage, where the top of the cage would go down into the water", he said.

'It's bad. It still does make me sick to my stomach'. The student told the station a previous class had filled a trashcan with water, and that the students and teacher drowned the trapped raccoons in it.

"One of the raccoons ate a chicken that they were raising so the teacher pinned the raccoons, caught them in cages, took the cages, filled up large trash cans full of water and had the children drown the raccoons in the cages inside the water".

'Why is he not fighting?' one person asks in the clip as the raccoon sits in the garbage bin filled with water.

Kevin Christian, a spokesperson for Marion County School Board, said in a statement, "While law enforcement tells us the teacher may not have done anything illegal, his actions before students are certainly questionable".

The teacher has worked at Forest High School since 2006.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says it is investigating the way the raccoons were killed.

It released a statement on Tuesday saying it was "looking into" the incident and that officers are determining "the legality of what occurred", according to OCALA.

It is unclear whether or not the teacher, who has not yet been identified, will be facing any criminal charges for the incident.

"He has always gone above and beyond his call of duty to ensure that his students had everything they needed".

But the mother of the student who filmed the incident remains unconvinced that the raccoons were handled in the appropriate manner. She said her child came home in tears and was yelling and angry over what happened to the animals.

'We must focus on all of the extremely positive and life changing things that this man has done for people'. Whether it is a raccoon or (another animal) you just don't torture an animal and kill it like that.
