Jose Mourinho has suggested that he will not be on the lookout for a new assistant manager at Manchester United following Rui Faria's exit this summer.

Jose Mourinho, Manager of Manchester United tells the players to applaud the fans during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford on February 25, 2018 in Manchester, England. "I am not training this week".

"I will organise my coaching staff in a way where the assistant manager figure doesn't exist", Mourinho said.

The 36-year-old had other options as he approached the end of his playing career but the chance to work under Mourinho was too good to refuse.

"You never know what is going to be around the corner".

"If that moment arrives, I will be a very proud guy because this man came to me when he was a kid 17 years ago".

But to do that, he will need to move things around in his first-team squad - and that means one of his star 21-year-old academy midfielders could be shifted out on loan, with a number of clubs keen to take him, according to reports. "I've been at this club, and it is such a great club, so I obviously know the club and the manager", he said.

Carrick said he is considering moving into management one day but it is not something he intends to push for yet.

"Just because I was a half-decent player it doesn't guarantee you're going to be a success in whatever you do".

"The end-game, maybe, if I get into it and I think I'd like to manage - probably at this stage my answer would be yes (I would like to be a manager) but I'm not getting carried away". That will evolve and when he wants my opinion I'm there to give it'.
