The next - and very much long-awaited - instalment of the cult gaming franchise will finally arrive next year, publishers Deep Silver have confirmed.

Following the delay of Metro Exodus, Deep Silver has also announced that Shenmue 3 will now target a 2019 release. Since then, details regarding the RPG have been scarce, with it being pushed from its planned December 2017 release date to the second half of 2018. It seems like no one wants a repeat of Mighty No. 9, least of all Deep Silver who were involved in that mess, and everyone wants to make sure Shenmue III is legit before it gets shown to the world.

'The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible time frame, ' they said.

Shenmue 3 was officially announced during Sony's E3 2015 presentation, with the game being developed using funds from a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign.

Yu Suzuki, the lead developer of Shenmue III, apologized for the game's delay.

"We can not thank you enough for your enduring support", Suzuki added.
