Dallas Independent School District spokeswoman Robyn Harris spoke with the Dallas Morning News and said Gilstrap-Portley was shrewd in his ability to outsmart school officials. He was even named district's offensive player of the year. As it turns out, there's a very good reason for his dominance.

Sidney Bouvier Gilstrap-Portley alleged to be a Hurricane Harvey refugee when he transferred and enrolled as a freshman to Dallas' Skyline High School in August under the name Rashun Richardson.

Gilstrap-Portley graduated from North Mesquite High School in 2011, a source told WFAA.

"This school year our district welcomed evacuees displaced by Hurricane Harvey".

Dallas ISD superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa told NBC DFW the district will "follow better protocols to try and prevent this from happening". He originally attempted to do so at Skyline High School, but because he did not have a physical, he could not play at the school.

While on the basketball team Gilstrap-Portley received praise, as Rashun Richardson.

Obviously the basketball portion of the story isn't great for the kids that he played against.

As a student, Gilstrap-Portley dated a 14-year old girl.

"It's unbelievable to me that he could get away with this", she said. "That's why I was shocked when I heard that all this came out because that's not the kid that I knew". Still, the thought of a 25-year old "dating" anyone while posing as a high schooler is terrifying.

It wasn't until one of his former coaches, from North Mesquite, spotted him at a tournament in April, that his plan was foiled.

Gilstrap-Portley then transferred to Hillcrest High School, where he began playing for the basketball team dominating against opposing players on the court.

The faux high school star faces a charge of tampering with government records, per the News.
