CBS Hopes 'The Big Bang Theory' Exceeds 12 Seasons

Ever since The Big Bang Theory was renewed for Seasons 11 and 12 in 2017, the rumor was that Season 12 would be the show's last.

"With performance like that, "we are hopeful that there will be more" seasons of Big Bang beyond the upcoming 12th", Kahl said.

But CBS has no plans for this to be the final season of what was long TV's top-rated comedy until Roseanne came back. Many assumed that as soon as the two-year renewal, which CBS handed out a year ago from the time of writing, faded out, so would The Big Bang Theory. And that doesn't even include the (surely killer) ratings from Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) wedding, which could put the show up season over season. According to a report by Deadline, season 12 fulfills a two-season contract, as well as a two-year deal for the cast.

At the Upfonts this week, CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl revealed that the science-friendly sitcom is "zero down" from Season 10. "As long as Chuck [Lorre, series' creator] and his team have stories to tell, we will take the show for as long as they want to go". "We hope to get at least two more years out of them".

The Big Bang Theory Season 12 will air Thursdays at 8/7c this fall on CBS.

It won't be a simple thing for the show to stick around. The core cast members are already the highest-paid actors on TV, each pulling about $1 million per episode.

"The only manner in which the cast has discussed wrapping [The Big Bang Theory] has been that we're all going to be very sad when that day comes", Galecki said during the Television Critics Association winter press tour (via TVLine).
