Samuel was born in Trinidad and Tobago then raised in England, and played football for England up to under-21 level.

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of our former player Jlloyd Samuel at the age of just 37 in a vehicle accident", said a post on Villa's official Twitter account.

He was reportedly on his way back from dropping his children off at school when the accident happened.

The family of former Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers defender Jlloyd Samuel who was killed in a road collision say they are "devastated by their sudden loss". "He represented Trinidad and Tobago on two occasions and on both occasions with distinction", John-Williams said.

"His next of kin have been informed and are now being supported by specially trained officers".

Cheshire Police also said the driver of the van, a 54-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

"The TTFA and all his former teammates extends deepest condolences to his family in this most hard time".

"He was also a respected ex-footballer and businessman who played for a number of clubs".

Jay-Lloyd Samuel in 2001 in the "Aston Villa" became the victor of the Intertoto Cup, in 2012 in the "Esteglal" Cup in Iran.

He moved to fellow Premier League side Bolton in 2007, where he spent four years, before ending his playing days in Iran.

"The family at this time respectfully request to be left alone so they can have time to grieve and mourn his passing".
