Drivers have to download the Waze app onto their phones before they can use it in their cars.

Shouting at your sat-nav may now result in something actually happening, whether or not you want it, thanks to Ford and navigation app Waze's inclusion of voice control. The catch is this feature will only be available for owners of iPhones.

This will let users run Waze on their iPhone, project it to the car's screen, and control it using voice commands, the vehicle manufacturer said. The integration with Sync 3 makes it easier for Waze users to be able to find faster traffic routes, locate cheaper fuel prices and report traffic accidents.

The SYNC 3 software version has to be 3.0 or greater for the feature to work.

The beam-to-touchscreen feature will be compatible with Ford cars running version 3.0 of its Sync 3 navigation system and iOS 11.3.

"With Waze, our customers get the benefits they're accustomed to with the added luxury of experiencing them on a bigger screen".
