Eyewitnesses in the Golan Heights say they saw the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system intercept "something" late Thursday afternoon. According to the report, four missiles were shot down missile defense system "Iron dome".

"The Iron Dome launch by the IDF came in response to the infiltration of an unidentified object", the Golan Regional Council said in a statement. The circumstances are being looked into. Reports that the interceptor had hit an aircraft, however, were mistaken. The Iranian armed forces fired about 20 rockets at IDF positions on the Syrian-Israeli border. The IDF's Spokesman said an investigation is underway.

The recent round of strikes and counterstrikes between Israel and Syria mark a serious escalation in the conflict and paves the way for Israel to further intensify its efforts in countering Iran's presence in Syria.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Lebanese group, said the attack marked a "new phase" in the war in Syria.
