"Achieving the Blue Flag status isn't easy and a lot of work goes into keeping our beaches in the best possible condition".

One of South Shields' most popular beaches beach has once again won two coveted national awards - marking its status as one of the best in the world.

Cllr Richard Kosior, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Briefholder for Tourism, Culture and Harbour, said: "Weymouth Beach draws residents and tourists to its shores, come rain or shine".

"This award wouldn't have been achieved without our dedicated Beach Management Team, alongside the businesses and concessions that we work in partnership with". In the three decades since, this number has soared to 47, including three award-winning marinas and one boat tour operator, meaning Wales has more Blue Flags per mile than anywhere else in the UK.

Keep Britain Tidy's Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: "Blue Flag leads the fight back for the Blue Planet".

The Waterfront marina has been re-certified Blue Flag, an worldwide eco-certification for beaches and marinas, which its maintained each year since 2012.

Blue Flag beaches also have to run a minimum of five educational activities for the local community and visitors to make people aware of the importance of looking after the natural environment. "Hopefully next year we'll see an even greater number joining us as we drive up standards across the board".
