"We contested against the BJP as well as Congress".

Meanwhile, BJP's BS Yeddyurappa for the third time was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka at the Raj Bhavan.

"It is a conspiracy to destroy the constitution made by Baba Saheb Ambedkar". Soon after the Karnataka election results, TMC chief congratulated all newly elected MLAs. In her tweet, she said, "Congratulations to the winners of the Karnataka elections". For those who lost, fight back. If Congress had gone into an alliance with the JD (S), the result would have been different.

It was an indirect message by TMC chief to national party Congress to make coalitions with regional parties ahead of upcoming elections.

Late last night, Congress and JD (S) challenged Karnataka Governor Vajubhai R. Vala's decision in the top court to invite BJP to form the government even when the saffron party, with 105 MLAs, including one Independent MLA, is seven short of the halfway mark of 112. Political experts said that by aligning with Congress to stop BJP, Mayawati seeks to boost "opposition unity" before 2019 Lok Sabha elections. "Since they (BJP) came to power they have been misusing government machinery, thereby attacking democracy", said Dalit leader, while addressing a press conference.

Though Vala has invited the BJP to form the government, he has given 15 days to the saffron party to prove its majority in the state assembly.

In the hearing, former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi appeared for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta for the Union government, and Abhishek Manu Singhvi for the Congress-JD (S) alliance.
