It has been long believed that Stone is a subject of Mueller's investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation to win the 2016 presidential election.

Special counsel Robert Mueller has subpoenaed a social media expertwho advised Roger Stone during the 2016 presidential campaign, Reuters reports.

Stone appeared before the House Intelligence Committee in September and denied allegations of collusion with Russians during the election, but as The Hill points out, "Stone has made contradicting statements about whether he knew in advance that WikiLeaks was going to publish a trove of hacked Democratic National Committee emails".

While Mueller's office declined to comment, a lawyer for Jason Sullivan, the consultant, confirmed the subpoenas were delivered to his legal team last week. Sullivan reportedly performed services for an independent political action committee to back President Trump's campaign.

The two subpoenas, Reuters reported, request Sullivan's appearance before a grand jury on May 18 and order him to bring documents and other information, respectively. However, Sullivan's Twitter bio, as NBC's Ben Collins pointed out, reads that he "worked on Trump 2016 campaign serving as "Chief Social Media Strategist" directly to Roger J Stone Jr".
