The McCormick County Sheriff's Office received calls that a kangaroo was spotted near the SC state line with Georgia early Tuesday morning, FOX 8 reported.

The McCormick County Sheriff's Office located the kangaroo in the Clarks Hill area, near the South Carolina-Georgia border.

Deputies were called out to hunt for a marsupial on the move Tuesday morning. "Where the animal was seen is very, very close to where it belongs, so it's not like he was hopping at large around McCormick County".

"I was shocked. I ain't never heard of that". "That's weird, someone had to turn him loose", he said, surprised at the footage.

"It sounds like he had someone working with the animal when it escaped", explained Sheriff Clark.

Officials say it is legal to have a pet kangaroo in SC and the owner had all the proper documents.

The kangaroo was corralled by its owner a and is back in its pen as of Tuesday morning.
