Former Leicester and Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri will leave Nantes at the end of the Ligue 1 season.

The Italian was only appointed back in June of previous year but will depart after just one campaign in charge.

Nantes finished the season in tenth position, registering 14 victories, 10 draws and 16 defeats, though they were at one stage challenging for a place to play European football next season.

According to French media reports, Nantes president Waldemar Kita has confirmed the Italian manager will be in charge of his final game on Saturday against Strasbourg.

"We thank Claudio Ranieri and his staff for all the work they have done this season and wish them lots of success in their next projects", Kita said.

Ranieri arrived last summer after Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao left suddenly for Porto.

"I want to thank the President because he offered me the chance to come to Nantes and to return to the French league", Ranieri said.

"I want to thank my players because the first part of the championship was great even though the second part was more complicated, they gave everything and, for me, it's important that they gave the maximum".

"It has been very good here, I hope that Nantes will continue to progress".
