English-based trio Luke Charteris, Tomas Francis and Josh Adams have been withdrawn from Wales' summer tour, while Josh Navidi is out injured.

Wales' contest with the Springboks in Washington DC sits outside World Rugby's designated global window - which begins on the weekend of June 9 and runs until June 24.

Dragons wing Ashton Hewitt and his fellow uncapped team-mate, forward Aaron Wainwright, have been called into the squad, along with Ospreys prop Rhodri Jones.

The Welsh Rugby Union announced that Worcester wing Adams, Exeter prop Francis and Bath lock Charteris have been released from the squad as they were not available for the whole tour.

The WRU confirmed that Navidi has been ruled out of the tour after dislocating a shoulder in Cardiff Blues' Challenge Cup final victory last weekend.

The three Saturdays within the June worldwide window are 9, 16 and 23 June, with Wales having no extra game in this period.

As a result, coach Warren Gatland has dropped the trio for the entire tour, including the two Tests against Argentina.

"With the players unavailable to link up with the squad until the week of our second Test match we have had to replace them in the squad".

"The situation is very clear for players playing in England going forward and heading into a RWC year".

Forwards: Rob Evans, Alun Wyn Jones, Nicky Smith, Elliot Dee, Ryan Elias, Rhodri Jones, Samson Lee, Dillon Lewis, Adam Beard, Bradley Davies, Seb Davies, Cory Hill (co-captain) James Davies, Ellis Jenkins (co-captain), Ross Moriarty, Aaron Wainwright, Aaron Shingler.
