More than 1,200 teams from 312 Division I schools - including this year's national champions in men's and women's basketball -have been recognized for academic excellence after scoring in the top 10 percent of their sports in the most recent Academic Progress Rates. Swimming and diving was one of five programs, a school record, recognized in 2011-12 joining men's golf, men's tennis, gymnastics and volleyball. The Nittany Lions have had at least three squads earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards in all 13 years of the program.

UTSA's men's golf and volleyball programs are repeat winners, while this is the second overall Public Recognition Award for the women's golf program. The latest data is yet another indicator of across-the-board student-athlete success at Villanova.

The other Duke programs recognized were men's and women's fencing, men's and women's soccer, field hockey, men's golf, women's lacrosse, women's cross country, women's tennis and volleyball. The score for individual teams that do not have flawless scores are released by the NCAA at a later date. We are as focused on classroom achievement as we are with what we accomplish as competitors on the mat. "The combination of athletics, academic studies and academic support staff at Penn State is unbelievable and I can't wait to see our student-athletes making an impact in their communities once they graduate!"

The University of Arkansas has earned a public recognition award in 12 of the 13 years since the program was initiated. The nine recognitions for women's golf is a program record. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport. Of the 64-team women's tournament, Gonzaga was one of 15 honored.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I athletics teams across the country.

Specific scores for all teams will be released May 23. Penn State's 31 NCAA titles since 1992-93 lead all Big Ten Conference institutions.
