Check out Social Security's website - www.socialsecurity.gov- to see the top national baby names for 2017. At the time of a child's birth, parents supply the name to the agency when applying for a child's Social Security card, thus making Social Security America's source for the most popular baby names.

The agency began compiling the baby name list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880.

The Social Security Administration announced on Thursday the most popular baby names in Florida for 2017.

Liam also was tops in the nation for boys, but Olivia was No. 2 in the United States, topped by Emma. Or if it's a girl, name her Lydia; there were only 34 born in 2017.

The data, provided by the U.S. Social Security Administration, said there were 47 boys named James and 56 girls named Emma this year. On the girls' side, the most distinctly Californian names were No. 7 Camila (23rd in the U.S.) and No. 14 Luna (37th). Zoe/Zoey would have grabbed a top 10 spot as well.

The SSA provides a tool to lookup where your name was ranked, in the past several years. Sidney, on the other hand, did not receive a ranking. In fact, the top ten names in each category are very similar to last year's list.
