Prince Harry and Meghan Markle kiss on the steps of St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle after their wedding on Sat., May 19, 2018.

The spectacle was watched by thousands in Texas and around the world on line.

Meghan, who began the day as a TV star, will end it by Harry's side as the newly minted Duchess of Sussex, whose thoroughly modern wedding broke the royal mold. Markle was in the back of a Rolls Royce Phantom 4, seated next to her mother, and was visibly grinning under her veil.

Her elegant white dress with an open bateau neckline was by British designer Clare Waight Keller, Givenchy's first female artistic director. Prince Charles walked the bride down the aisle.

Harry, flanked by his brother and best man Prince William, looked emotional as he waited at the altar, dressed in the frockcoat uniform of the Blues and Royals.

She was followed by the Most Reverend Michael Curry, who is the first black presiding bishop of the Episcopal church in the United States.

His impassioned preaching style was a marked departure from the usually conservative tone of a British royal wedding.

It was followed by a performance of the Ben E. King classic "Stand by Me" by The Kingdom Choir, a group of 20 gospel singers, another of the elements that gave the ceremony an air of diversity that has been nearly entirely absent from any royal wedding that has gone before.

Princess Charlotte sticks her tongue out as she rides to the wedding.

Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, leave the chapel after the wedding.

Among the host of famous guests who witnessed the ceremony were Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney - dressed in an eye-catching yellow dress and hat - tennis star Serena Williams, actor Idris Elba and singer James Blunt.

Markle was later spotted driving down the long road to St. George's chapel as a crowd of 100K cheered her along.

Guests connected to the royal family included Pippa Middleton and her parents and Tom Parker Bowles, who is the son of Prince Charles' wife, Camilla.

People wave to the newlyweds during their carriage trip through Windsor. Some had camped out for days to get the best possible spot, while others rose before dawn to make their way to Windsor amid a party atmosphere.

The wedding represents a historic moment for the royal family, as it welcomes an outspoken biracial, American divorcée into its ranks.

A choir sang the Ben E King classic "Stand By Me" before Harry and Meghan exchanged vows and were officially proclaimed husband and wife. It is thought to be the first time that this text has been used in a royal wedding. Like Princesses Diana and Kate before her, Markle omitted the word "obey." . Rather, Meghan pledged to "love him, comfort him, honor and protect him".
