After days of speculation, Arsenal have officially announced that former Paris-Saint Germain coach Unai Emery will succeed Arsène Wenger as their new coach.

Emery spent three seasons at LaLiga side Sevilla, leading them to three consecutive Europa League titles before joining PSG, where he spent two years.

Wenger left Arsenal at the end of the season after 22 years in charge.

The club appear to be keen to steer away from the model established under Wenger, and Emery is expected to work closely with the pair in a bid to bring success back to Arsenal. I want to make an effort to speak with you, to the supporters, to explain my ideas, my ambition and to explain I am very excited for this opportunity at a big club, with a grand stadium.

But sources told ESPN FC that Emery was able to persuade Arsenal that he could lead the club into a new era regardless of their budget, and that he could work within their revamped structure that includes Gazidis, recruitment chief Sven Mislintat and director of football relations Raul Sanllehi.

"Unai has an outstanding track record of success throughout his career, has developed some of the best young talent in Europe and plays an exciting, progressive style of football that fits Arsenal perfectly", he said.

The 46-year-old Spaniard said: "We will create a new present and a new future for Arsenal".

The club will be desperate to re-establish themselves among the Premier League elite.

"Several things stood out during his interview and the entire process; his football knowledge, energy, determination and love of the game", Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke said.

"We conducted a confidential, wide-ranging and rigorous search involving extensive background references, data and video analysis, and personal meetings with all the candidates we shortlisted. All were interested in the position and we were unanimous in our choice of Unai to drive the next chapter of our history". It was thought that former Gunners player Mikel Arteta was the front-runner for the role, until Emery expressed his interest in the jog a few days ago.
