Loris Karius gave a tearful apology to Liverpool supporters after his two mistakes cost Jurgen Klopp's side in their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are set to go face-to-face in Kiev on Saturday night to aim of becoming kings of Europe.

Meanwhile, Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane tempered expectations.

"If they win the final it will be an unprecedented event in their history".

The long-awaited showdown between European soccer powers Real Madrid and Liverpool for Champions League glory finally is here.

The last time these clubs squared off in the UCL final was 1981, when Liverpool prevailed 1-0 at the Parc des Princes in Paris. Three in a row, Zidane absolutely got it spot on, and you wouldn't bet against a fourth next year either.

At least PBS did use the Real Madrid logo, together with that of Liverpool.

Klopp, who is in his second Champions League final after losing with Borussia Dortmund against Bayern Munich in 2013, said he had his strongest substitutes' bench for some time.

The Reds' path to Kiev has not been borne of controlling games, but capitalising on isolated moments, with 29 of the team's tournament-high 40 goals coming from the front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

The Madrid side's key striker, Cristiano Ronaldo is widely regarded alongside Barcelona's Lionel Messi, as one of the greatest players of his generation. In his first season at Anfield, the Egyptian forward broke the Premier League record for goals in a 38-game season with 32.
