Inside Anthony Bourdain's Final Days Before His Death

The death of the 61-year-old is being reported by CNN as a suicide.

A move to CNN followed in 2013, where he won acclaim for Parts Unknown, which saw him mixing cooking with travels across the globe.

Bun Cha Huong Lien restaurant in the Vietnamese capital's leafy Old Quarter soared to fame after the 2016 sit-down between Obama and Bourdain for his CNN show.

We've now received more details about Bourdain's passing.

A police spokesperson in Strasbourg, France, confirmed Bourdain's death to PEOPLE, but would not confirm the cause of death.

Bourdain and Ripert had separate rooms at Le Chambard hotel and had dined together many mornings and nights at its Winstub restaurant, one of its waiters, Maxime Voinson, told The New York Times.

Bourdain's body was discovered in on Friday.

He was on location shooting an episode of his award-winning food and travel show, Parts Unknown.

Their deaths came the same week the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a study showing suicide rates in the U.S. are on the rise in nearly every state.

Posting on Twitter, British chef James Martin described Bourdain as "a titan of the food and drink world". "Thank you for making food so exciting".
