The turning point has been the differences within his family over the final decision, with some keen for him to remain in Madrid and others backing a move to Barcelona.

Multiple people within Antoine Griezmann's inner circle say they want him to stay at Atletico Madrid rather than join Barcelona next season, sources close to the forward told ESPN FC's Julien Laurens.

"I'm very sorry but today I'm not going to give my decision", he said.

Griezmann had hinted that he would sort out his future before the World Cup, but now it looks like fans will have to wait until afterwards to find out what he has decided.

Puig is one of the most talented footballers of the younger generation and has been deemed to step into Lionel Messi's boots at the Camp Nou when the Argentine talisman steps down from the club.

"I know there's a lot of expectation, I know many were waiting for it, but today is not the day (to speak about my future)".

Griezmann was pushed by reporters from Mundo Deportivo yesterday about his situation and whether he would be moving to Barcelona.

He had previously stated the matter would be sorted before the World Cup, which begins on Thursday.

Messi is still in search of his first World Cup triumph, and where Argentina finish this summer may determine his future with the national team.

If the Catalan club signed him now, it would cost them €200 million but if they wait until the turn of the month, it will be halved to €100 million.
