De Gea himself though, has insisted that he wants to forget about the club game for a few weeks and focus exclusively on Russian Federation.

"You have to be focused on having a good World Cup - we are all good". Hopefully we can go far and win.

"Football is football and a thousand things can happen.", he added. But I'm always calm. "I still don't know what was behind it all and everything that came out a few days before the start of Euro 2016". It is important to be focused and be 100 per cent'.

David de Gea has told AS that Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez spoke personally to him last week during his visit to the Spain camp to apologise for the defamatory comments he made about the player being involved in a sex scandal which turned out to be completely false.

But De Gea's club life remains a hot topic even while he is away on global duty. "I accepted his apologies politely", Spanish media quoted the goalkeeper as saying. What happens is that what they said at the time was public and that's why I think that the apologies should also be in public.

"It's also true that the majority of people in the public eye that disrespected me have not even apologised to me in private".

However, when asked about the possibility of the move resurfacing De Gea refused to outright rule out the possibility and instead insisted that all of his energies were focused on the World Cup. "It is easy to talk about others in this country".

As for his future, he noted that his plan is continue winning titles under Jose Mourinho, he said: "I have to win titles with United".

"In the end, things are proven and we saw that it was all a lie". "Many people have been very unfair to me".

"We also have a great national team, and it will be a tough game".

"It is water under the bridge and it came out that it was all a lie".

De Gea heads into the World Cup on the back of a clean sheet in a 1-0 friendly victory over Tunisia.
