Gareth Southgate confirmed Rashford, 20, "picked up a slight knock" during England's final training session before the squad flew out to Russian Federation on Tuesday.

Southgate has quietly overseen a changing of the guard with England, however, by promoting young players and overlooking the likes of Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart, Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere and he believes that England will travel to Russian Federation having already pressed the reset button with the fans.

Kane, though, told the English daily newspapers this is not the case with the present group under Gareth Southgate - as many of them have played with each other at Under-21 level. We ask people to pay a lot of money to watch football.

"We are seeing now that this is a team that is enjoying each other's company, getting on well, very proud to represent their nation, that have some talent, a real desire and determination to play for England and are determined to play in a style that people are enjoying watching".

With that clash in mind, De Bruyne has pinpointed former Liverpool star Raheem Sterling as the player he thinks could dominate at the tournament.

Throughout the 2017/18 campaign, Rashford made a total of 52 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and assisting a further nine, helping earn his place in England's 23-man World Cup squad.

Who could England face on their way to a World Cup triumph?

But Southgate insists that his players are primarily determined to entertain and ensure that England at least enjoys a feel-good factor during the tournament. Our focus as a team has to be on the bits we can control: constantly trying to improve, playing in a style that we've used in the past year or so, and that people have warmed to.

"We are just trying to improve every day we work together".

On Rashford's display, Three Lions boss Southgate said: 'What pleased me most is that he enjoyed his football tonight. "We want to take this tournament head on".
