Almost two hours after the deadline set by Golden Boy Promotions, both Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have come to terms for a rematch on September 15th in Las Vegas.

"I'm happy to inform that we have a fight September 15", Oscar de La Hoya has tweeted.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin II is ON!

The Los Angeles Times' Lance Pugmire reported Wednesday that Golovkin wasn't budging from his demand to receive 45 percent of the fight purse, up slightly than the 42.5 percent cut proposed by Golden Boy Promotions.

While De La Hoya claimed the fight was off in a conversation with ESPN, a "Hail Mary" offer was floated by Golden Boy President Eric Gomez and negotiated with Golovkin's team.

If the fight, which will take place at T-Mobile Arena during Mexican Independence Day weekend, did not come to fruition, Loeffler said Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs), who holds the WBC and WBA titles, was prepared to face WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders in a unification bout.

ESPN's Dan Rafael noted Alvarez earned 70 percent of the purse from the first fight against Golovkin and that Golovkin's share would've risen to 35 percent in May.

The pair's first bout last September ended in a controversial draw, with judge Adalaide Byrd's scorecard of 118-110 in favour of Alvarez widely ridiculed.
