With 79 million PS4s sold around the world and more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we've built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles.

With players who've created a Fornite account on their PS4 unable to continue play on the Switch version of the game, they'll have to open a brand new account and start from scratch.

Fortnite is now on the Nintendo Switch as well, so players can start enjoying perks and more add-ons like these in the future. Or PS4 and the Xbox One, while we're at it.

Sony is taking a lot of criticism at the moment with regards to cross-play.

It is offered on platforms such as the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile, however, on Tuesday, June 12th, Fortnite was introduced on the Nintendo Switch after a massive amount of requests from community members. Despite a barrage of requests to explain the move from Fortnite players and journalists, Sony has refused explain the reasoning behind the move. There is no such restriction on players moving between Xbox One and Switch, a fact that has stoked anger further.

Both Microsoft and Fortnite publisher Epic Games have previously indicated that the Japanese company had chosen to prevent PlayStation gamers competing against other console owners in the title's multi-player fight-to-the-death Battle Royale mode.

Not being able to play with PS4 owners is a bit of a bummer. The announcement came during Nintendo's E3 presentation where the company showcased a stream of back-to-back announcements that included the Fortnite release.

In E3 interviews, representatives for Sony's fellow console makers were relatively diplomatic in expressing their annoyance. If it doesn't help the developers and it doesn't help the consumer then it doesn't feel like it helps grow gaming to me. We'll bring you more news on the subject as it unfolds. Sure, at least some of the fragments can be put together, but true "play anywhere" capability still doesn't exist. Our goal is to be relevant and important to every gamer on the planet. "If people want to go buy someone else's console and play games there, great, as long as we're all leaning in to how do we make this business for everybody as vibrant as possible".
