A powerful storm damaged the Panera Bread restaurant in the Arena Hub shopping area in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pa., on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service was also assessing the scene Thursday in an effort to determine if a tornado did in fact touch down, as officials at the scene said they suspected. "When that happened, I was like, 'I have to get closer to the inside of the store.' I turned to run, and that was when I saw the back wall was just gone".

A possible tornado ripped through Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Wednesday evening, causing significant damage to the township.

Six minor injuries were reported, says WYOU.

In the city of Wilkes-Barre, damage was reported in the area of the Wyoming Valley Mall while the area was under a tornado warning.

"I was washing dishes in the back, my manager had us secure the doors", Isles said. Power lines litter the street, with a shopping plaza hit especially hard. "Nearly everyone's cars in the parking lot were destroyed", the 18-year-old said.

Emergency crews from across the region have also been called in, with the American Red Cross on the scene assisting the first responders.

The tornado was on the ground for approximately three quarters of a mile (1.2 km), with a maximum path width of 200 yards (183 m).

Mundy Street was closed from Highland Park Boulevard to Tambur Boulevard all day Thursday, as was the Wyoming Valley Mall. Investigators said, "structures were sheared off near their foundation" when describing the damage.

"As we stand right now, we have no leaks", Brominski said Thursday morning.
