The Football Association is understood to be strongly considering a bid to host the World Cup in 2030, and Gill says England should be encouraged by the fact FIFA put so much emphasis on the United bid's financial and technical scores in the bidding process.

"We congratulate the USA, Canada and Mexico on winning the bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup", a statement read.

The 2026 World Cup will have 48 teams playing a total of 80 games - 60 planned across 10 US cities, and 10 games in three cities for each of Canada and Mexico.

After considering separate bids for the 2026 World Cup, the federations that govern soccer in Mexico, Canada and the United States made a decision to launch a cooperative effort to host the tournament in April 2017.

For Morocco, it was the fifth time it had bid for the hosting rights to the football World Cup, calling it "the dream of a nation".

Vancouver Whitecaps star Alphonso Davies, who will likely lead the Canadian line for years to come, eloquently opened the North American bid's presentation to the FIFA Congress.

Before the United States hosted the World Cup in 1994, the sport was in a far different and inferior position. The stadium has also hosted World Cup qualifying games in the past. After controversy surrounded the awarding of the 2018 World Cup to Russian Federation and the 2022 finals in Qatar, the vote was the first to be decided by the FIFA congress.

"And in that spirit we wish all Russian hosts and all the teams competing here the very best of luck". None of the US, Canada or Mexico work all that often with their AFC counterparts, but the United Bid team sensed an opportunity in the region.

Herdman, whose team is now tied with Lebanon at No. 79 in the world rankings, has yet to hear whether the three co-hosts will secure automatic qualification as is the norm.

Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton are now the only Canadian cities that could host matches.

Each U.S. city would host at least five matches.

While Canada has never hosted-or even qualified for-the men's World Cup, it can count on its more experienced co-hosts and current NAFTA partners.

Although it would be the first tournament to be hosted by three nations, the vast majority of games will be held in the US.

Field dimensions smaller than FIFA's standard for World Cup matches, Catlett said, were the chief obstacles.

Catlett expects discussions with U.S. Soccer over Jacksonville's potential role in supporting events to start within the next two to three months.
