Officials say no other Kellogg products are impacted by this recall.

"The FDA is advising consumers to not eat and to discard any Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal".

Federal health officials want you to toss out all boxes of Kellogg's Honey Smacks after a salmonella outbreak sickened 73 people across 31 states.

From breakfast cereal to vegetables, United States health officials are warning people to avoid some foods after this month's outbreak of unrelated intestinal infections, including salmonella. Outbreaks of salmonella have been preliminarily tied to Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal and pre-cut melons and a fruit medley. The BEST if Used By Date can be found on the top of the cereal box, and the UPC code can be found on the bottom of the box. Check your home for it and throw it away, or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

According to the CDC, use or consumption of products contaminated with Salmonella may result in serious illness.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is reporting one case of Salmonella that matches a multi-state outbreak strain.

The number of ill people reported from each state is as follows: Alabama (2), Arizona (1), California (5), CT (3), Georgia (2), IL (1), IN (3), Kentucky (1), Louisiana (2), MA (5), Maryland (1), MI (4), MS (1), Montana (1), North Carolina (3), New Hampshire (1), New Jersey (3), NY (7), OH (1), Oklahoma (2), OR (1), Pennsylvania (5), Rhode Island (2), Tennessee (1), Texas (2), Utah (1), Virginia (4), Washington (3), Wisconsin (1), and West Virginia (3).

People who think they might have symptoms of a salmonella infection should consult their healthcare provider. In some cases, Salmonella infection can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics.

Children under five years old are at the greatest risk, and those children, along with the elderly and people with compromised immune systems, are most likely to have severe infections. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment.
