Spence's handlers figured it was the ideal homecoming fight for Spence, who had boxed only once previously in the Dallas area, and that was a fifth-round knockout of Alejandro Barrera in 2015, four fights before Spence won his world title. There just wasn't much of the show he hoped would go with it.

American boxer Errol Spence made quick work of Carlos Ocampo, knocking out the Mexican challenger in the first round Saturday to retain his International Boxing Federation welterweight title.

Fighting at the Dallas Cowboys' practice facility after growing up in the suburbs as a fan of America's Team, Spence improved to 24-0 with his 11th straight knockout and 21st overall.

Jones met with Spence in his dressing room before the fight and joined the champion in the ring for the post-fight interview.

Ocampo crumpled to the canvas after a right hand to the body just as the first round was ending.

"I was a little disappointed", Spence said. "I wanted him to sustain a bit and give him some punishment, but the body shot got him and I dropped him", Spence said. "This arena was full of Dallas Cowboys fans supporting you and they feel your passion". I saw a guy in this ring who knew what he wanted. When you knock a man out by hitting him on the side of his back, you bad to the bone.

It was the second defense of the 147-pound title that Spence won last summer in Englishman Kell Brook's hometown.

And Ocampo (22-1, 13 KOs), 22, was a massive underdog, a green prospect fighting outside of Mexico for the first time and given virtually no chance to win. "It would have been a very hard fight for me".

"I don't get paid for overtime".

The buildup for the right was all the crowd got, with Spence taking the ring to big cheers with a big Cowboys star logo on the front of his robe. "I wanted to play for the Dallas Cowboys and now I'm fighting in front of the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones".

Spence battered Lamont Peterson in his first title defense in NY in January, winning in the eighth round.

"We'll definitely be back [to fight in the Dallas area] after I unify some titles", Spence said. "We'll make this an annual thing where I fight here".

Spence's victory came a week after Terence Crawford took the WBO crown from Jeff Horn, who had beaten Manny Pacquiao a year earlier. He wants a world title unification fight, be it against Keith Thurman, who has been sidelined for more than a year because of injuries; Terence Crawford, who moved up in weight last week and knocked out Jeff Horn in the ninth round to win a world title in his third weight division; or the victor of the fight between former titleholders Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter. Prescott, wearing a Mississippi State baseball hat and jersey, took part in a pre-fight interview on the Showtime stage. Why not make it happen?

Jones then joked that Spence could "fight again tonight if someone wants to step up and fight him".
