Police have identified the body of a man found after a auto crash near Autzen Stadium as a former University of OR football player. Leiato was the passenger while Pedro Chavarin Jr., 22, was the driver.

The impact of the crash near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Kinsrow Avenue, in which the vehicle, a 2014 Kia sedan crashed and rolled off the road into some heavy brush.

Authorities are withholding the identities of the driver and the person found dead pending notification of family.

Though the investigation isn't over, police say the deceased person was likely a passenger in the vehicle and not a pedestrian who got hit. Chavarin was charged with a DUI, and then several hours later, Leiato's body was discovered.

Leiato, who was 21, had been dismissed from the Ducks back in April following an arrest. All three charges were misdemeanors. He had three sacks in the spring game and was expected to contend for a starting outside linebacker job this coming season. Leiato had 14 tackles in 2017.

Leiato was dismissed from the team in late May after his second arrest in four months.

OR athletic director Rob Mullens and Cristobal released the following statement Saturday morning: "We are saddened to learn of the passing of Fotu, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time".
