She was attacked in her driveway as her 5-year-old granddaughter slept inside. In this wild story, Dede Phillips says she was heading out her front door when she saw a bobcat staring back at her near her truck.

After strangling the cat and finding that it was lifeless, Phillips asked her daughter in law to ring up 911. She went to take a picture of the bobcat but said she knew something wasn't right when started coming closer.

"I thought, 'Not today.' There was no way I was going to die", Phillips told the paper.

"As he starts towards me, I threw my phone and he went mid-air and just about knocked me down", she said. The animal took two steps and jumped on her. "When it got to [the] pole, it leaped on me..."

The daughter-in-law of a bobcat trapper, Phillips knew what she had to do to protect herself, and grabbed the creature's throat, tackling it to the ground and eventually strangling it.

A rabid bobcat was no match for this Georgia granny.

Although she suffered a broken finger and several bite and claw wounds to her hands, arms, chest and legs, the grandmother kept the bobcat trapped between her hands till her daughter-in-law showed up and stabbed the animal four to five times. She then began struggling for her life but trying not to scream.

Wildlife authorities arrived at her house and informed her that the dead bobcat was rabid. "If she would have came out it would have killed her". Phillips said the bobcat attacked after she snapped a picture of it.

An online fundraising account has been established to help with her medical expenses, which can be found here.
