Brazil entered Sunday's Group E game against Switzerland having won 16 of their last 18 opening matches at the World Cup, but the Brazilians were unable to secure three points in a 1-1 draw with the Swiss in Russian Federation.

The World Cup favourites were held to a 1-1 draw in Rostov-on-Don after Philippe Coutinho's opener was cancelled out by a header from Steven Zuber.

Brazil opened scoring on 20 minutes from Philippe Coutinho's long range strike that beat the Swiss' goalkeeper. Zuber connecting with Xherdan Shaqiri's corner to header past the helpless Alisson.

The Mexican referee Cesar Arturo Ramos made a clear and obvious error in not penalising the foul.

Ronaldo led Portugal to a thrilling 3-3 draw with Spain in their opening game of the tournament.

"I hope that people will take notice of us now and take us seriously, sometimes there's a lack of recognition towards us and that's a pity because we played very well".

Brazil controlled the game nearly completely, with Switzerland not so much feeding on scraps as sniffing around for crumbs.

They had lost only one game in 21 since Tite took over as coach in 2016 and, in the first half in Rostov, they set about the Swiss like men possessed. It was certainly a memorable weekend for the Swiss maestro as he reclaimed his World No. 1 spot, won his 98th career title and then witnessed his country's football team register a historic result against Brazil.

Neymar, who missed the 2014 moment-to-be forgotten with a broken bone in his back, was able to play even though coach Tite said Saturday he was not "100 percent" fit.

I was seeing it again but it's not for me to talk about it, there are four professionals working for that.

"We had some good, clean situations but could have been more precise". He's got to be very unlucky not to be in the team.

"In the second half, I told them to remain calm, focused, believe in ourselves and try and push higher up on the pitch and create possibilities and opportunities to score, and that's what we did".
