'The Walking Dead' Season 9 reportedly bringing back Jon Bernthal's Shane

Looks like Jon Bernthal wasn't just visiting The Walking Dead's set just to hang out after all. The exact nature of his role remains a mystery as those familiar with the series will remember that Shane was stabbed to death by Andrew Lincoln's character, Rick Grimes, in the Season 2 finale. He's landed his own series, The Punisher, along with roles in Fury, Sicario, The Accountant, Wind River, Baby Driver, and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Circumstances around Shane's return are kept under wraps.

Bernthal played former police officer Shane Walsh, Rick's best friend, in the first two seasons of the series - outlasting the comic book version of his character - however Shane died during an altercation with Rick before moments later returning as a walker. Shane also appeared in Season 3 as a ghostly apparition haunting Rick.

Shane will be back - for an episode, at least - on The Walking Dead.

THR notes that if Shane returns, it probably won't be for long.

It's already been announced that Andrew Lincoln, whose Rick Grimes character has been at the core of "The Walking Dead" since it started, is leaving in Season 9.

Also no word yet on which cast members will attend this year, but the network has a habit of pulling out all the stops for The Walking Dead at Comic-Con for fans.

There's no word yet on date, but it's been Friday for years, and is likely to be Friday again, with back-to-back panels for both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead.
