Denmark's forward Martin Braithwaite, left, vies with Australia's midfielder Jackson Irvine during the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup Group C football match at the Samara Arena in Samara on Thursday. Nicolai Jorgensen controlled and cleverly flicked the ball inside to Eriksen, who ghosted into space and lashed a sweet half-volley on the rise which flew high into the net.

To make it through to the last 16 the Socceroos now have to defeat Peru in Sochi on Tuesday, and hope France beat the Danes at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium. Denmark, meanwhile, won their first match against Peru.

Pione Sisto tried his luck with a long range shot which Ryan held, and Jorgensen really should have put them two up shortly after when he was beautifully set up with a free header by Henrik Dalsgaard's cross from the right, only to power his effort wide of Ryan's post.

Jumping for joy: Jedinak now has three World Cup goals.

Denmark's talisman Christian Eriksen knows his side must rediscover the attacking dynamism of their qualifying campaign if they are to follow up on their opening victory over Peru with a win against Australia in Samara on Thursday.

Both managers made changes in the 68th minute, with Andres Cornelius entering the field for Denmark, while 19-year-old Daniel Arzani was introduced for Australia.

R!' in joy after Dane Yussuf Yurary Poulsen was belatedly judged to have handled the ball in the penalty area following a Mathew Leckie header.

Australia lost to 1998 World Cup champion France 2-1 last Saturday (Sunday NZT) in Kazan, with both French goals coming as the result of video technology.

On Denmark's Christian Eriksen: "He's an excellent player, he's had a great season and he's probably Denmark's most unsafe player".

Lasse Schone could replace William Kvist, who was stretchered off during Denmark's opener, though the midfielder remains hopeful of returning before the end of the group stages. The top finishers in the group will go on to play opponents from Group D, which includes Croatia, Argentina, Iceland and Nigeria.

Nabbout's arm was in a sling after the game, but he said he wasn't in pain.

Australia coach Bert van Marwijk will not need to do any extra homework on Denmark's star man, Eriksen having worked his way up through the Ajax youth system.
