Fortnite maker Epic Games is not completely happy with the metagame in Battle Royale right now. "We strongly believe that the evolution of "Fortnite" supports a wide range of play styles and counterplay", it said.

As Fortnite continues to excel across multiple platforms, and now stands as the most prominent free-to-play title on consoles, Epic has expressed interest in moving Fortnite forward within the esports scene. "Our goal with any changes is to keep the game fun and interesting, keeping it feeling fresh and new".

It's obvious that this has been something the team has been thinking about for while - the guided rockets, jet packs, or stink bombs and rocket ammo cap recently added to Fortnite all feel like attempts to counter the tower building frenzy that ends every game - this is the Fortnite team making it official: the days of insane building and tower to tower RPG stand offs will soon be over.

'Currently, the superiority of shotguns, rockets, and uncapped building are such a dominant play style in the final circle that most other strategies are being drowned out'.

So what's happening now and in the immediate future? Epic actually kick-started this process recently with a nerf to shotguns. The most important, and possibly game-changing addition is resource caps, which Epic is now exploring. There is much to be done because despite its wild success, the game still is in Early Access phase!

"You should be able to find Victory Royales through multiple strategies", wrote Epic. Shotguns should be strong, but other weapons have room to grow.

"Not every encounter should have to end in a build-off", says the blog. The Fortnite team wants to empower players in ways that will showcase "skill, strategy and tactics".

Epic closed out the blog post by saying that it will be exploring these current and future changes in the next few weeks. The biggest change, however, is that Epic is experimenting with resource caps. Sound off with your thoughts in the comment section below!
