Trump blasts Democrats as 'phony' over child separation stories

Just a day earlier, one person close to the president said, Trump told advisers that separating families at the border was the best deterrent to illegal immigration and said that "my people love it". Rumours of case dismissals forced federal prosecutors to deny that they have dismissed immigration violation cases in South Texas.

In Florida, Argentine immigrant Maria Bilbao said she joined the protest because she came to the country 17 years ago with her then-9-year-old son and understands the fear of being separated from a child.

The afternoon inspection ordered by Colyer resulted a few hours later in a two-paragraph report from the state Department for Children and Families that the five homes operated by The Villages on a wooded 400-acre site just outside Topeka are meeting the immigrant children's needs.

While Trump signed an executive order Wednesday (local time) ending the practice, he has bristled at the sympathy directed toward the migrant families and argued without evidence that many of them are criminals and intent on doing harm once in the United States.

On Friday morning, the president tweeted about the "phony stories of sadness and grief" coming from the US-Mexico border - a clear attempt to undermine media reports of traumatised undocumented immigrant families separated by US officials.

He explained the true nature of the journey of minors from Guatemala, Honduras and other Central American nations, explaining that border agents go into the field with toys, clothes and food - purchased with their own money - to try to help the children they find.

"We can not allow our country to be overrun by illegal immigrants", the president tweeted.

Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November.

Confusion has ensued, with parents left searching for their children. The federal court ruled several years ago that children must be released as quickly as possible from family detention.

Also Friday, a group of almost a dozen independent human rights experts commissioned by the United Nations said the new USA policy "may lead to indefinite detention of entire families in violation of worldwide human rights standards". "At no point should a child be incarcerated, and children need to be with their parents". US Immigration and Customs Enforcement launched the VOICE Office in April 2017, following an Executive Order by the President calling for its creation, he said. Parents and children were being detained separately. The other Texas center, in Karnes City, is ringed by 15-foot (4.5-meter) fences and has security cameras monitoring movements. He said he played soccer with some of the children.

And the administration says it will now seek to detain immigrant families during their immigration proceedings, which has also stoked an outcry. "But 60 percent of Democrats say the government is more to blame for enforcing the law".

How the government would reunite families has been unclear because the families are first stopped by Customs and Border Patrol, with children taken into custody by HHS and adults detained through ICE. "How many times could he change his mind?" "They are trying to circumvent child welfare standards". That bill would provide $25 billion for Trump's border wall and set new limits on family visas in favor of merit-based entry - but also create a path to citizenship for young "Dreamers".

In addition to providing private showers and educational field trips for children, the centers should appear "child-friendly rather than penal in nature", the agency said.
