A 9-year-old English bulldog was named the victor of the 2018 World's Ugliest Dog contest in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The dogs and their handlers walk down a red carpet, before being evaluated by a panel of judges.

Others vying for the title included a blackhead-covered Chinese Crested-Dachshund mutt, a bulldog mix with excess wrinkly skin and a Pekingese named Wild Thang.

The long-tongued English Bulldog was declared the victor of the competition, now in its 30 year.

The pooch's owner Megan Brainard, from Anoka, Minnesota, will receive $1,500 (£1,100) following the victory in Petaluma, California. But Zsa Zsa wasn't the only dog with an ugly mug worth loving. Moe has lost his hearing and sight but his sense of smell is said to still be impeccable. He came in third place. The competition itself aims to raise awareness for dog adoption. Contestants are also judged on first impressions, unusual attributes, personality and audience reaction.

"And with so many lovable animals displaced and available for adoption, we want our fans to know what this contest is really about".
