Gary Sanchez likely to DL after pulling up on grounder

The Yankees are bracing for bad news about slugger Gary Sanchez, who left Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a groin injury.

"What can I say, that's how baseball is sometimes". Sanchez said through an interpreter. "Now I'm just hoping it's not a long time".

He appeared to suffer the injury running to first base when he grounded into a 6-4-3 double play in the 10th inning.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sanchez hurt his right groin/hip abductor and "it's probably going to be a DL situation".

Boone said Kyle Higashioka, the only available catcher on the 40-man roster, is likely to be the player called up to replace Sanchez.

Higashioka is hitting.191 with five home runs and 22 RBIs in 51 games this season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Sanchez, 25, was excellent for the Yankees last season, hitting.278 with 33 home runs and 90 RBI in 122 games. His inability to stay healthy is a major concern, however, especially given the Yankees started well this year and are a legitimate playoff contender.
